How frequently you will have to change air purifier filters?
July 12, 2022
How frequently you will have to change filters varies based upon the purifier type and usage?
Some filters are reusable and washable, but they require meticulous maintenance, so you don't usually find them on the most effective air purifiers. Reusable filters are generally good at removing larger particles from the air, like dust mites and pollen. You'll also find UV (ultraviolet light) filters on the market, which often claim to destroy biological impurities like mold or bacteria, but many require higher wattage and greater exposure to be effective (not to mention some bacteria is UV-resistant).
For optimal performance, most manufacturers recommend changing your filter every 3-6 months. Filters should be changed every 30-60 days for allergy and asthma sufferers, as well as those who want cleaner air.
How do you know when your air purifier filter needs to be changed?
Examine the white sheet to see if it has turned gray or black; the more dirt on the sheet, the more likely it is that your filter needs to be replaced. A sudden increase in your electricity or power bill over several months is another sign that your air filter needs to be changed.
How long do HEPA filters last?
In general, HEPA filters should be replaced once a year, pre-filters every 30 days, and carbon filters every three to six months. Replace permanent filters every three months and clean them every three months.
